Another week, another period of spending the days in front of my laptop while staring at either moving pictures or non-moving ones (yes, I'm well aware that an image is always either moving or non-moving and can't be any other kind but seriously guys, don't feel offended by the obviousness, Captain Obvious is just doing her job here). Gee, d'you think? Can it be more obvious that I actually had way too much time to do anything yet still didn't do anything useful? Anyway, as I have spent my holiday or rather schoolfree week with watching movies, series and loads of Tumblr and 9GAG, (including the occasional try at translating the Iliad by Homerus) I will now start my writing again along with school work that I should have finished yesterday but will only start doing tomorrow evening, or probably later. Today and tomorrow will be all about having classes that have nothing to do with my study and therefore much more interesting than the usual stuff, so I guess I won't even finish typing this blog as I'm going off to bed early and wake up first thing in the morning at half past five...
To start my rant about the words of the day, I obviously didn't have the inspiration nor energy and will to come up with the words myself and asked my friends on Facebook to hand me their ideas. Two came up and said the things I'm going to talk about today/tomorrow/any day this week. So before I start, a special thanks to my dear Nikki and Suus :)
Pickle, some may know it as that green small but not too small vegetable (or whatever) that some people tend to like and others -like me- really don't. I just have no clue whatsoever why anyone would want to eat a pickled cucumber, or anything like that for the matter. So I'm not going to talk about this definition as I refuse to talk about food which taste I can't even remember because it's been this long since I ate the damn thing. Another definition however, is "an affectionate form of address to a mischievous child". Seriously, I don't know who came up with the comparison between a mischievous child and a pickled cucumber but I think that this person must have been some kind of genius. I mean, not that I would even dare to use the term because I'm afraid I would see the child in person as an impersonation of a green ugly vegetable in a glass pot, which is not the kindest image I can think of. I also can't see how it could be an affectionate form of address but I'm going to leave it at that. Just plain brilliant, however immensely stupid at the same time.
Next word for this day (as I'm going to believe I might actually succeed in finishing this today, but of course the mere act of saying this will cause my bad luck (not really bad luck but I'm once again too lazy to find another phrase and I won't be able to finish it but hey, at least I've made it to the second word, that must be something already, mustn't it?) is Popocatepetl. This word is not only the name of an active volcano in Mexico, somewhere south of New Mexico city if I can recall the Oxford dictionary site correctly, it is also the name of a Mexican café/restaurant, in any event in Eindhoven, probably more around the country and globe. The first time I heard about this was during music class back in high school. We had to sing/speak the Geographical Fugue by Ernst Stoch.
It was pretty cool since it was spoken music containing all (just solemnly, I don't really mean all) geographical names and places around the world. Of course, since it is a fugue (for all the people who don't know what that means, don't bother Googling it because I'm going to explain it right after I finish this intermezzo of useless explaining while not even explaining anything, just stating that something will be explained after I finish explaining that I will explain something, so you don't have to search for the explanation yourself (indeed very useless huh?)) we all had to start the same thing at different times, making it flow into each other and creating a great piece of music but most of all fun during music classes. (I know I haven't really explained what a fugue is, because what I just said is more explanatory for a canon but I don't care so if you still want to know what it means, just Google it yourself, making the previous comments on explaining the term even more useless than it already was but I still couldn't care less)
Every time I take the bus back home from school, I see the restaurant with the same name as that volcano that is mentioned in the song along with too many other things to type down in here, and I think about these classes. One of the few classes these were, that actually caused my mind to relax and let myself be happy since the rest of my high school subjects and classes weren't really too fun.
Anyway, I see that I've already typed quite a great deal of letters and spaces here, so I'm going to shut down the computer (yes, really a computer and typing on a "normal" keyboard kinda makes my irritated because I'm not used to it after all the relaxed laptop keyboards..) and call it a night.
See you next time when I will try to find great words starting with a Q. Gonna be fun..
